It is often given in combination with methotrexate and sulfasalazine a treatment known as triple therapy, to help slow RA disease progression for patients who do not get relief from methotrexate therapy alone. 1,2 The study is based on hydroxychloroquine sulfate and adalimumab the active ingredients of Plaquenil and Humira, respectively, and Plaquenil and Humira the brand names. Other drugs that have the same active ingredients e.g. generic drugs are not considered. Adalimumab was originally prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis RA and hidradenitis suppurativa HS.
